What is GlucoScan AI?
GlucoScan AI is a nutritional app that helps you calculate carbohydrates (Carbs) in your food using
visual AI,
and suggests insulin dosage based on your personal ratios. It is a SUPPORT tool, not a medical device.
Is GlucoScan AI a medical application?
No. GlucoScan AI is an educational NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT tool. Suggested values are guidelines only.
Always consult your endocrinologist or healthcare professional before making changes to your insulin.
How does photo analysis work?
Photograph your food with your phone. GlucoScan AI uses advanced AI (Google Cloud Vertex AI) to
automatically
detect ingredients,
estimate volumetric weight, and calculate total carbohydrates. If your device has LiDAR or a depth
sensor, 3D dimensional analysis is activated for more accurate weight estimation.
You can then edit individual weights if needed.
Can the app read nutritional labels or barcodes?
Yes. GlucoScan AI includes OCR (text recognition from images) to detect nutritional
label information, and barcode scanning that queries the Open Food Facts database
to automatically retrieve product data.
What is Insulin on Board (IOB)?
IOB (Insulin on Board) is the insulin still active in your body from previous doses.
GlucoScan AI calculates it automatically based on your insulin type and deducts it from the correction
dose, preventing you from taking more insulin than needed.
What are Pre-bolus and Dual Bolus?
Pre-bolus: GlucoScan AI calculates the optimal waiting time between injection and
eating, based on your current glucose level, insulin type, and glycemic index of the meal.
Dual Bolus: For fat/protein-rich meals (pizza, cheesy pasta...), the app splits the
dose into two parts: immediate and delayed, with a reminder notification.
Can I connect GlucoScan AI with Nightscout?
Yes. In Settings → Nightscout you can configure your URL and access token to import
your glucose readings in real time. Nightscout data is displayed on the dashboard glucose chart.
Does the app work without internet?
Yes. GlucoScan AI includes an offline mode that uses a local database with over 438
verified foods. When there's no connection, the app analyzes your food using this database without
needing cloud AI.
Is there a home screen widget?
Yes. Available on iOS (WidgetKit) and Android (3 sizes: small, large,
and combo). The widget shows your updated glucose data directly on the home screen without opening
the app.
Does the app consider the menstrual cycle or physical activity?
Yes. Menstrual cycle: You can configure dose percentage adjustments for menstruation
and luteal phases in your profile.
Physical activity: Before each scan you can indicate if you've exercised or are
feeling ill so the app accounts for it in the calculation.
How does biometric security work?
GlucoScan AI supports Face ID, Touch ID, and Android biometrics to protect access
to your health data. It activates automatically and has a 15-second grace period so you don't have
to authenticate every time you briefly switch apps.
What are Ratio and ISF?
Ratio: Insulin to Carb ratio (e.g., 1:10 = 1 unit of insulin for every 10g Carbs)
ISF (Insulin Sensitivity Factor): How much glucose drops per unit of insulin (e.g., 50
mg/dL per unit)
What is the difference between Free and PRO?
Free: 5 scans/day, visual AI analysis, ingredient editing, 3 favorite meals, today's
history only, 7 languages, offline mode, IOB, pre-bolus, dual bolus, home screen widget, biometric
security
PRO: Unlimited scans, ad-free, full unlimited history, AI that learns from
you
(remembers your saved meals and adapts its estimates to your usual ingredient and weight patterns),

What are Favorite Meals?
You can save your frequent meals as favorites from the results screen.
When you select a favorite, you’ll quickly see the carbs and dose without needing to scan again.
The free version allows up to 3 favorites. With PRO, you can save unlimited favorites.
Are my health data private?
Yes. Your data is encrypted in transit and securely stored in Firebase. We do not share information with
third parties.

Why does the app need camera access?
To photograph your food and analyze it with AI. Photos are sent to Google Cloud Vertex AI (secure
European servers) for analysis but are not
stored on our servers.

🗑️ Account Management & Data Deletion
In compliance with Google Play and App Store policies, we offer our users the ability to request the complete
deletion of their account and all associated data.
Option 1: In-App
You can delete your account directly within the app:
- Go to Settings (gear icon).
- Select Profile & Account.
- Tap on Delete Account.
- Confirm the action. This will delete all your data immediately.
Option 2: Web Request
If you cannot access the app, you can request account deletion by emailing us:
We will process your request and remove all your data (profile, history, favorites, daily summaries,
logs) within 30 days.
We will
confirm via email once the process is complete.
